Time to hit the maps
It is the off season in more than one sense. The trout side of life is closed, and despite an uptick in temperature, the waters here are much to chilly to chase carp. So, after a brutally difficult summer of carp fishing, what do I do during the winter? Simple. Check my maps. I have found a bunch of fishy water this summer, and plan to sit down with the markings on the map and use Microsoft Live Earth, or Google Maps to do a satellite scan over of the body of water. This is a great way to expand fishable areas and find some nice flats and slower sections of rivers.
I did get hit with some sad news, one of our local carp lakes was sacrificed in order to turn it into a more gamefish friendly water. Bummer. I had meant to at least go pile up numbers of fish when they lowered it before they eradicated the fish. The fish were heavily overpopulated, however and in the huge numbers they did damage the water, however this is not a free standing lake. It is sandwiched between two dams and it makes me wonder how long it will be before carp get back in there.
